Women from different countries share the best practices related to the Women’s Empowerment Principles implementation. New Zealand women team presents the success accelerators, lessons learned and the barriers that appeared during the project implementation.

Carolyn Savage
As a Consultant, Architect and a Green Star Accredited Professional (GSAP), Carolyn has a strong drive to develop environmentally sustainable developments and buildings for the future. “The importance of what we create today, so they can last tomorrow, is as important as to the way we work within our unique landscapes.” Her experience spans close to 30 years working on environmental and sustainable design outcomes, was NZIA Auckland Branch Environmental Chair for close to 10 years and attended the meetings on the environmental tool to be implemented for the design and construction sector (NZ Green Building 2005), in 2007 became an Australasian Green Star Accredited Professional.

Contributed to the People’s Report, SDG 13 Climate Action (2019), prepared Green Star Achievement Plans and training for two hospitals and Green Star technical input for the Scott Base Redevelopment (Antarctica). Has been a speaker on the Sustainable Development Goals across international events.

Hellen Swales
Hellen Swales has been a member of BPW New Zealand since 2012. She was President of Upper Hutt Club and National President of BPW New Zealand 2017 – 2020, she was a member of BPWI standing committee to the UN 2014 – 2017. She also held the WEPs chair from 2020 – 2022. Hellen was appointed the chairs position for Diversity and Inclusion with the New Zealand Defence which had the focus of implementing the 7 WEPs Principles across Defence. Hellen is the Deputy Mayor of the city of Upper Hutt and has been an elected member of Local government since 2010. During this time Hellen has held various chairs locally and regionally.

Vicky Mee
Vicky Mee has been a member of BPW Franklin in New Zealand since 2009 and was President of BPW New Zealand from 2014-2016. She was a member of the NZ UN Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) Committee from 2013 to 2021 and served as Chair of the Committee from 2016 until 2020. Vicky trained as a geologist and met considerable gender bias as a young woman which has shaped her advocacy role. Vicky now works as a financial mentor in a local charitable trust and is a financial coach in a programme supporting people in hardship to develop small business enterprises. Vicky was the Resolutions Chair at the online Congress in 2021 and has been asked to be Resolutions Chair for Congress 2024.
